How many birds might we see on a day tour?

Total numbers of species observed can vary quite dramatically due to interesting bloom events or a fruiting fig tree for example. A typical average would be 50 species in a day, but our guides have previously recorded over 80 birds when nature is kind to us! Our birding tours are well balanced for birding, twitching and photography enthusiasts.

how much walking is involved?

Our birding tours certainly feature more walking than our conventional tours, however all walks are optional. One can always hang back and observe species from the comfort of a picnic chair in the shade. Due to the closed canopy of rainforests, our walks are quite cool and densely shaded.

do i need my own binoculars?

While we always recommend carrying your own binoculars, we know this isn’t always possible with travel limitations. We do carry a communal pair in the vehicle and our guides are happy to pass theirs over once they’ve located and Identified the subject.

will we see other wildlife too?

We are yet to encounter a birdwatcher that doesn’t enjoy seeing a Wild Platypus, Possum or Tree Kangaroo while we’re in the field! The birding will always take focus, but when the bird-bag is full of goodies and time permits, we will always take the opportunity to witness other wildlife. Most of the rich birdwatching locations are where these other critters can also be found
