ITINERARY

12:15pm – Pickup in Cairns

Experience the magical Great Barrier Reef Drive heading north on the region’s most scenic coastal highway. Observe the changes in habitat diversity as we get closer to the Daintree Tropical Rainforest.

1:30pm – Pickup in Port Douglas

2:15pm – Arrive at Solar Whisper Wildlife Cruise
Enjoy a relaxing cruise on the beautiful Daintree River. Aboard our quiet, solar-electric vessel, you’ll enjoy wildlife viewing with virtually no environmental impact. Get closer to nature by experiencing the sounds, scents and atmosphere of the river without the noise or fumes of a conventional boat. We have a 99% success rate for spotting crocodiles, excellent bird watching opportunities and other wildlife such as snakes, frogs and fish and bats. The cruise is one hour.

3:45pm – Daintree Rainforest
Enter the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation National Park, the traditional lands of the Kuku Yalanji people. Cape Tribulation captivates visitors with its extraordinary natural beauty. Pristine rainforest, crystal-clear streams, towering mountains and lush freshwater valleys combine to bring this remarkable living museum to life.

Your guide will lead a rainforest walk, revealing the fascinating relationships that exist within one of the world’s oldest and most complex ecosystems. This also offers our best opportunity to encounter a wild Southern Cassowary in its natural habitat.

5:30pm – Cape Tribulation Coast and Evening Meal

No visit to the Daintree Coast would be complete without spending time on the beach. Famous as the place “where the rainforest meets the reef,” this spectacular coastline takes on an entirely different character as evening approaches. Relax with a complimentary beverage as the sun sets behind the rainforest covered hills and the sounds of the forest begin to change.

When it comes to dinner, there’s no “roughing it.” This evening, we’ll enjoy a delicious meal at a private rainforest lodge, showcasing a wonderful selection of fresh local cuisine.

7:30pm Night spotting in the Northern Daintree
Venturing into the rainforest after dark is perhaps the most unique and exciting way to visit the rainforest. Much of the region’s unique wildlife has adopted a nocturnal lifestyle to avoid the heat of the tropical daytime. As darkness falls, you’ll have the opportunity to observe some fascinating creatures as they emerge for the evening, creating one of the tour’s most memorable experiences.

9:00pm – Depart Daintree
As the evening draws to a close, sit back, relax and enjoy the journey home in the comfort of our modern vehicle. We’ll cross the Daintree River aboard the cable ferry before returning to civilisation late in the evening.

10:00pm – Arrive Port Douglas

11:00pm – Arrive Cairns

How much walking is involved and how far?

We access two walks on our Nocturnal Tour, one during the day and a separate walk for our night spotting walk. Both walks are approximately 1 kilometre. The afternoon walk takes 45 minutes and the nocturnal walk around 1.5 hours

what kind of wildlife do we see on the night walk?

The rainforest comes alive at night, offering a completely different set of animals and sounds compared to the daytime. Evenings are filled with unique invertebrates, such as spiders, katydids, beetles, and a variety of other fascinating insects. These creatures make excellent subjects for macro photographers! During our nocturnal walks, we often encounter frogs, lizards, microbats, fruit bats, and occasionally even snakes, owls, and possums. Each night’s walk is a new experience, as factors like humidity, temperature, tide, and moon phase all influence which nocturnal creatures might be hiding or roaming about.

is it safe to walk through the rainforest at night?

Our rainforest spotlighting trail is not on a boardwalk, however, encounters with dangerous wildlife are extremely rare. Even the occasional python or tree snake is safe to observe during our night walks. This activity serves as excellent exposure therapy for those who feel uneasy around spiders, though it is not recommended for individuals with a severe phobia.
